As the year draws to an end we're taking time to look back on 2011 and some of the really awesome stuff that happened for the band this year. So take a minute to help us celebrate some great accomplishments!

Two of the band's songs (Break Of Day and Rattlesnake Blues) were placed on national TV in the series "Heartland" airing on CBC (Canada).
The 2011 EP Wartime Songs (CD / iTunes) was co-produced by Jim Devito whose past work in the studio includes Tom Petty, Lynyrd Skynyrd and many many others since the 70's. The band traveled to record at Devito's private Retrophonics Recording Studios in St. Augustine, FL in February and recorded 6 new songs in 1 day.
Wartime Songs mixed with famed producer Sylvia Massy at RadioStar Studios in Weed, CA. Sylvia's past work alongside producer Rick Rubin includes multi-platinum artists such as Red Hot Chili Peppers, Tool, Johnny Cash and many more.
Song (Love's So Strong) placed on national TV in the USA series "Necessary Roughness".
Two new songs (Just A Game and Hitman Blues) released on Rock Band 3, on both Xbox 360 and PS3, and the band's music quickly reached hundreds of downloads within the first month!
Promotional campaign to national college radio with Tinderbox Music - Wartime Songs charted on both CMJ college charts as well as Blues charts in various states and continues to get regular airplay on over 200 radio stations in North America.
The song Two Lovers was chosen for the Guitar Center Compilation CD "Fresh Cuts Volume 7". The song was selected personally by Sublime with Rome to be included on the upcoming CD and 50,000 CDs are being given away in Guitar Center stores nationwide!
Partnership with VISO Music brings official music videos to youtube.com/artists (which has received 2.9 million views in 7 months) and a Live Webcast which included some acoustic performances and a live chat with the band on YouTube.
Second self-produced and released in October of 2011: Best Of The Blues features 8 new recordings including revised songs from past releases and a few of the band's favorite blues tracks from previous albums.85% of the album was recorded in just over a week in the band's private studio.
Best Of The Blues wins 2nd place in the Blues Foundation's "Best Self-Produced Blues CD" competition in the state of Indiana.
The Blue News is featured on a podcast episode of Audio Gumshoe (Episode #150) and the song "Just A Game" is also included in the AMPed New Music Weekly podcast (Episode #306).

The Blue News - Wartime Songs EP Album Review

Hailing from the Midwest, The Blue News are quickly working their way up the ladder to success, with the same formula of artists like The Black Keys, My Morning Jacket, and even a simplistic, early White Stripes. The stripped down, gritty, in-your-face blues with a touch of honey in the softer parts are gaining The Blue News more popularity by the month.

With the release of their newest EP Wartime Blues, The Blue News lay down the foundation for success in their sludgy riffs and raspy, crooning lyrics straight from the mold of classic blues masters. Two upbeat numbers start off the EP with a nice pace while the sludgy riffs catch hold of the listener. They cater to blues fans' craving for emotional and jagged riffs to go along with the solid percussion, which holds up the song structure and fills out its edges nicely.

"Hypnotized" is arguably the best sounding and catchiest song on the EP as far as all around production goes; it sounds like something right out of the Black Keys catalogue, not that this is a bad thing or makes them unoriginal, because they give their own twist on each song. One notable quality is their ability to change the tone and pitch of the lyrical range from grungy and raspy to a clean croon with a touch of honey in each chorus.

"Hitman Blues" has a classic blues feel to it, medium-paced with just enough crunch between the guitar and drums to draw the listener in with a head bang, then turn around and send them shuffling to the dance floor. Also a notable plus found within the EP is the production value. While it's not Danger Mouse production (The Black Keys), the quality is surprisingly good for an EP by an up-and-coming band. Each element of the instrumentation is heard clearly and concisely, while the lyrics blend in nicely over the top, allowing the switch between rhythm guitar and solos to fill out the rest of the sound.

"Stay Gone for Good" and "Be Yourself (And You'll Go Far)" round out this six song EP, which seems longer, but maybe that's just me. "Stay Gone for Good" kicks into high gear right off the start and provides one of the faster paced songs on the album. Evening out for the verse, it kicks back into high gear for each chorus, folding neatly into a really nice riff, keeping the song driving toward its apex.

"Be Yourself" is a friendly, acoustic track in the mold of Led Zeppelin III, which brings the EP to a soft close and rounds out a number of blues driven tracks with a laid back, comfortable number.

The Blue News are clearly on the track toward great heights. Already, their songs are gaining steam and being played on TV shows as we speak. They are a refreshing blend of classic blues and rock with elegant song structures. Again, like The Black Keys and to some degree The White Stripes, The Blue News stick to the formula they know well, conjuring up enough gritty riffs and emotional tonal changes, all while containing that stripped down feeling to successfully drown the listener in the most classic form of the blues.

Songs from the new album have already been added to playlists on popular blues internet stations like Nothing But The Blues in the UK which featured the band's song "Hitman Blues" as # 1 track on their July 30 playlist. The Blue News is turning to their blues roots with an upcoming album which is exclusively original blues songs. The new album will feature a compilation of songs from past studio albums along with several never-before-heard, brand-spankin’-new, previously unreleased, original songs! Now that’s a lot of adjectives! Listeners can expect to hear influences from across the blues spectrum including Delta Blues, Chicago Blues, West Coast Blues, Texas Blues and more. Current fans can expect to hear this new perspective of the band which still promises to retain their unique approach to songwriting. Consider the upcoming album a dedication to the roots of American blues music and a bold step in a new direction.

The decision comes on the heels of the latest album release “Wartime Songs” – a six song EP recorded by Jim Devito at Retrophonics Studio in St. Augustine, FL and mixed with famed producer Sylvia Massy at RadioStar Studios in Weed, CA. Jim Devito has earned a reputation over the years by recording The Allman Brothers, Tom Petty, Lynyrd Skynrd and Sylvia Massy worked with Rick Rubin in the 90’s and has worked in the studio on several multi-platinum albums including Johnny Cash, Tool and Red Hot Chili Peppers. After building a following and an impressive resume’ which includes five national tv placements, video game placements – The Blue News has made strides over the past 5 years with their self-produced original blues rock sound. About the "Hey Jude" album by The Beatles:
Hey Jude (original title: The Beatles Again) is a collection of non-album Beatles singles and B-sides, as well as "I Should Have Known Better" and "Can't Buy Me Love", two singles released by Capitol Records whose only previous American album appearance had been on the A Hard Day's Night soundtrack album. Until the release of 1967-1970 in 1973, Hey Jude was the only way to own the extremely popular "Hey Jude" single on LP or in a stereo mix. It is currently out of print.

All Music Review:

Kind of a catch-all record, Hey Jude was released very late in the Beatles' career, and it collects several singles and B-sides that never made it onto "official" albums. As a record though, it works quite well, and given the Beatles' genius, especially in the area of creating exquisite and ultra-progressive singles, it comes as no surprise. "Paperback Writer" works

particularly well, not having aged at all in the three years after its release. The bass guitar sound on this record is especially revolutionary. A couple of tracks, "Old Brown Shoe" and "The Ballad of John and Yoko,"make their vinyl debut here, and as usual give the consumer excellent value for the money. "Old Brown Shoe" (originally slated for Joe Cocker to record) is one of George Harrison's great lost classics.

TV SERIES TO PLAY BLUE NEWS 

The Canadian TV series Heartland will feature two songs by Blue News this weekend! The songs “Break of Day” and “Rattlesnake Blues” (both from the 2008 album Strange Light) will be aired on episode #412 on Sunday January 16, 2011. The show airs on the CBC and is syndicated internationally on several channels. The ratings for the show estimate over 1 million viewers!

We are pleased to announce that the band has 2 songs coming to RockBand 2 on Xbox 360! Below is a preview of "You've Got Someone". Our songs should be available in the RockBand DLC sometime this month! The song is on our upcoming EP "Good at Falling" released online on April 23, 2010. The CD release will follow soon after and be available at FYE plus over 5000 retail stores worldwide which can order any of our CDs through Super D Distribution. The track is also included on our Radio Demo along with the featured track "So Easy". The promotional single is being sent to radio starting now and an updated list of stations will be posted on bluenewsband.com very soon. So...watch for our new songs coming to the airwaves as well as RockBand 2 !!!

Remember to download Blue News on RockBand 2 later this month and call your local stations to request "So Easy" or "You've Got Someone"! Even if your local radio doesn't have our music already...they can figure out how to get it.

ROADTRIP NATION SOUNDTRACK
